The Guinean chief of defence Staff has come clear and open on the motives behind certain presidential decisions in recent times.

General Sabiba Coulibaly who spoke during an interview on state-run television said the Interim president’s actions were in the best interest of the country.

The dissolution of the presidential security battalion is one such decision.

The presidential security battalion was established after the inauguration of President Alpha Condé in 2011, to ensure his security but was terminated in September 2021.

The presidential guard initiative became necessary after several assassination attempts of former leaders including one-time strongman captain Moussa Dadis Camara.

From then on, the presidential security battalion, which no longer had an official mission, was confined to kilometre 36.

General Coulibaly also spoke about the dismissal of the head of the training center for peacekeeping operations after weapons were stolen
