Reactions have been trailing the UK’s suspension of active recruitment of doctors, nurses and caregivers from Ghana.
It’s important to note that this suspension affects all ECOWAS countries except Cape Verde.
The disturbing phenomenon is that leaders of these countries all travel abroad for medical care, perhaps the contributing factor to the brain drain.
As for this suspension, what impact will this have on healthcare systems across the board? Will it truly allow ECOWAS countries to look at its ailing health systems? Or maybe revisit the 2001 Abuja Declaration, where African countries pledged to allocate at least 15% of their national budgets each year to improve their healthcare systems?
Let’s hear the reaction of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) and our guest is Joseph Krampah, the National Public Relations Officer.
