In Ghana, Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has ordered the power distributor to compensate customers who suffered power blackouts over online power purchasing challenges which persisted for more than a week.
The electricity company of Ghana at a media briefing on Monday insisted it was not going to pay any compensation to customers who suffered various losses due to the failure of its vending prepayment system.
But according to the PURC, the law mandates the imposition of compensation among other penalties on public utility service providers for failure to comply with their legal obligations.
Ishmael Ackah is the executive secretary of the PURC.
