The Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union, in Ghana has called off its weeklong strike over the demand for better conditions of service. The union whose membership includes porters and drivers refused to work last week, leaving thousands of students unable to register for the new academic year.

According to leadership of the union, the failure by government to review their conditions of service has left their members worse off, hence their decision to embark on an industrial action.

In a statement after a meeting with government officials on Monday however, the National Leadership said they had, in consultation with the Local Executives of the Public Universities suspended the strike after coming to an agreement with Government.

They therefore called on all members to resume work today, whiles Leadership continues to engage with Government for the implementation of the agreement.
