Ghana’s Interior Ministry has imposed a 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew on the Nkwanta Township in the Oti Region following renewed violence in the area that has resulted in the death of 6 persons.
According to reports unknown assailants on Tuesday morning opened fire on residents in the market resulting in casualties.
It is unclear what may have triggered this latest incident but some persons are linking it to a contention over a Yam Festival being organized by the Akyode people in the Nkwanta town.
A statement issued by Ghana’s Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery, also reiterated a ban placed on the carrying of arms and ammunition or any offensive weapons in the affected area.
WADR’s Accra correspondent Naa Dedei Tettey has the details of the statement issued by the ministry.
