In Ghana, members of the Eastern Region branch of the Ghana Union of Traders Association on Monday, locked up several shops belonging to foreigners, especially Nigerians in the regional capital Koforidua

The Traders association members undertook a peaceful protest, displaying placards before closing the shops belonging to the Nigerians.

The local traders argue that per Ghana’s laws, foreigners have no right to engage in retail trade within the country, as their activities affect the local retailers negatively.

While the government has set up a presidential committee to properly scrutinize all foreigners engaging in trading activities in the country, negotiations with the Nigerian traders have ended inconclusively.

Meanwhile, Vice President, All Nigerians Community in the Eastern Region Chief Christian Ofor says actions like these may result in retaliatory closures of Ghanaian shops in Nigeria
