Survey findings put out by promediation have revealed that Ghana is exposed to the threat of armed groups operating in the Sahel because of its proximity to the Cascades region of Burkina Faso and northern Côte d’Ivoire.
The findings further reveal that some two to three hundred Ghanaian youth have already been recruited and trained by Jihadist groups from the Sahel region on the northern border of the country.
The report adds that although the armed groups do not appear to be on the offensive, their efforts currently are aimed at recruiting locally which could eventually lead to a sustainable foothold in remote and peripheral areas in the north.
