Ghana’s former President John Mahama has justified his decision to petition the Supreme Court challenging the Presidential results declared by the electoral commission.

The December 7 election result has become a contentious matter in the country, with nationwide demonstrations by the largest opposition political party, the National Democratic congress.

On Wednesday, the rejection of the results took a legal twist with the party heading to the Apex court demanding three main reliefs, namely, that the declaration that the election result in favour of President Nana Akufo-Addo be declared null and void, that President Akufo-Addo cannot hold himself as Head of state and for a re-election to determine the actual winner of the polls.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday night, John Mahama said he is contesting the results of the 2020 elections to remove doubts in the minds of some Ghanaians over the credibility of the results.
