Following recent floods in the Savannah Region of Ghana, military personnel have been deployed to assist residents in the area.

The floods occurred after heavy rains burst the banks of the White Volta River.

Thousands of people in the area have also been displaced after several acres of farmland and road networks were submerged.

Personnel of Operation Thunder Boat of the Ghana Armed Forces have therefore been deployed to assist the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in managee the situation.

Speaking to the press, the Savannah Regional Director of NADMO, Mohammed Tohir, stated though the intensity of the floods have not been witnessed before, the situation is under control and relief items are currently being distributed.
