The Gambia Press Union (GPU) says freedom of the press in the country has only improved when it is compared to the two decades of dictatorship under former president Yahya Jammeh.
The umbrella body of journalists has called on the government to fast-track legal reforms that will alleviate fear among journalists in executing their work.
GPU made the call on World Press Freedom Day.
