The new speaker of the National Assembly of the Gambia Fabakary Tombong Jatta has reiterated his call for the return of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.
Mr. Jatta who also serves as party leader of the former ruling Alliance for Patriotic, Reorientation and Construction APRC maintained that former African heads of state should be accorded dignity after leaving office despite their mistakes.
A section of the Gambian population and the Civil Society Organizations frowned at Jatta’s nomination to the parliament by President Barrow due to his stands on Jammeh returning home as a freeman.
It was surprising to see the new speaker still advocating for Jammeh’s return after falling out with the former strong man in the run-up to the December presidential polls after their differences on forming an alliance with President Barrow.
