World Cities Day, celebrated annually on 31 October, serves as an opportunity to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, push forward cooperation among countries in addressing challenges of urbanization and contribute to sustainable urban development around the world.
Until the next edition, governments and stakeholders have at the heart of discussions an agenda the UN says is a prerequisite for modern cities.
This agenda is ‘Financing sustainable urban future for all” the 2023 theme of WCD which aims to unlock transformative investment in urban planning and achieve adequate fiscal decentralization.
