This edition of Discovery takes us to The Gambia.
Recently, the Gambian government plans to commemorate the 200-year existence of George Town, now known as Janjan-bureh, a settlement boasting significant cultural heritage.
Well if you haven’t been there, George Town is an island in the middle of the River Gambia in the Central River Region.
It was discovered by the British before they purchased it in 1823 to serve as an asylum for freed African slaves.
In this feature, Our Banjul correspondent Sankulleh Janko will be speaking to Hassoum Ceesay, a historian on the discovery of George Town now known as Janjanbureh.
