Togo’s active forces, an umbrella coalition of CSOs and political groups say it is almost impossible for them to hold demonstrations after a ban.

The latest ban was announced last weekend which prevented citizens front Togo Debout to demonstrate against the alleged mismanagement of covid 19 funds.

Nouhoum Djibo, president of the Center for Democratic Governance and Crisis Prevention says the possibility of the restriction of the nation’s civic space originates in the amendment of the law on demonstrations in 2019.

A situation that is not without consequences for the democratic process.

For the time being, the opposition and civil society are still confronted with the refusal of the authorities to hold demonstrations in the country.
