In Liberia, research conducted by civil society organization—Integrity Watch Liberia has revealed that the country loses over 250 million United States Dollars  annually due to the illegal extraction of sand, rocks, and other minerals.

The fact-finding research conducted by the group also discovered that Liberia experienced substantial revenue losses of US$133.7 million in 2015 and US$116.6 million in 2016
