The United Nations says climate change has spurred close to doubling of natural disasters in the last 2 decades, the effect of which has led to extreme weather conditions, especially worsening wildfires, droughts and heatwaves.
This is according to a report released on Monday by the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction titled: "The Human Cost of Disasters 2000-2019.
The report comes ahead of this year’s International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction celebrated today, Tuesday 13 October, 2020.
