The Chadian government has communicated a series of measures to be undertaken to limit road traffic accidents across the country.
The Minister of Land Transport and Road Safety, Fatimé Goukouni Weddey said the measure primarily authorized the ban on intercity buses running from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
This ban was partially in place before it was lifted.
Others measures are the establishment of a speed limit system by sealing counters at 90 km per hour, rest system of one hour and thirty minutes every 500 kilometres for drivers of buses of public transport vehicles and goods.
The minister also stated that a toll-free number will be activated to coordinate data on road traffic violations in real-time,
These measures follow the accident that took place on January 28, 2023, between Oum-Hadjer and Abéché between a public transport bus and a jumbo jet and in which 20 people were killed.
