Burkina govt says food crisis to affect nearly 2.2 million people in 2023

The Burkinabe government on Monday said almost 2.2 million people, including internally displaced persons, will face a food crisis in 2023, which accounts for about 9.9% of the country’s population.

According to the Minister of Agriculture, Animal and Fisheries Resources, Denis Ouédraogo, who revealed these figures during the first 2023 session of the Ministerial Sector Board of Directors meeting, the final cereal and food balance sheet from the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign shows a gross deficit of seventy-two thousand three hundred and eighty-seven, tones of cereals, equivalent to 2% of the national demand.
