The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR) is urging for independent, unbiased, and credible trials of those responsible for the Karma village attack.
In a statement released on Tuesday, UNHCR spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani cited reports that on April 20, armed men in uniform, purportedly belonging to the defense and security forces, aided by paramilitary auxiliaries called Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), encircled the village and indiscriminately opened fire on the residents.
