The Burkinabè government this week announced the deployment of judicial police or provosts to join troops during anti-terrorist operations.

According to the code establishing Military Justice, the provosts have as their attributions the exercise of the missions of general police and military judicial police, under the constitution in force.

Additionally, the police will carry out investigations, particularly when soldiers commit acts that breach public order or when such acts are committed against them.

Issues of rights abuses and violations, torture, and mass killing are at the forefront of this decree.

In this brief chat, Youssouf Ouattara – a Burkinabe security analyst first- responds to whether Ouagadougou is taking steps to prevent an occurrence of what happened in Moura.
