In Burkina Faso, the national police say there has been an increase in the disappearances of children lately. According to the law enforcement agency, more than a dozen cases were recorded in the month of February alone.

The case of five-year-old little Carine Lofo, who went missing on February 19, 2022 in Koupéla (center-East) had particularly concerned many Internet users who massively shared her photo so that she could be found. According to relatives of the little girl, a woman on a motorcycle kidnapped her while she was playing in front of the door of her school with other children.

On Wednesday night, however, the little girl was found safe and sound, in the Saaba district, east of Ouagadougou.

According to an eyewitness, she was found all alone, crying in the street, asking for her mother.

Investigations are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
