The Burkina Faso government with immediate effect announced the closure of nearly fifty mining sites in the country’s northwest region.

In a directive Wednesday, authorities of Boucle du Mouhom ordered the closure of 43 gold mining sites citing security reasons.

As Tofik AbdulNasir reports, the region is beset by violent extremism.
