Beninese President Patrice Talon has been re-elected with 86% of the vote. The electoral commission announced the provisional result on Tuesday night, in a poll where the head of state was facing virtually unknown opposition candidates.

While observers from ECOWAS said they had noted a low voter turnout followed by a slight improvement, and those of the International Organization of la Francophonie (OIF), noted a "relatively low voter mobilization throughout the day, the vice-president of the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA) Geneviève Boko Nadjo that the turnout was 50.17%.

Journalist with the National Broadcast Station in Benin Abdou Alhassan Adamu has been briefing WADR on the outcome of the poll.
