Several months after the August 2022 violent confrontations between protesters and security forces in Sierra Leone, a rights group called for an impartial investigation and prosecution.

Amnesty International in a statement yesterday said law enforcement in the country used excessive force during the deadly riots on which light and justice are yet to come.

At least six police officers and 27 civilians were killed, during the demonstration to denounce the high cost of living, bad governance, and corruption among others.

A special committee has been set up to investigate the tragic event but to date, no findings have been made public while more than 500 people remain incarcerated says Amnesty.

Michel ken a researcher with Amnesty International West and Central Africa comments.
