More than a week after the government of Nigeria announced the indefinite suspension of the US Social Network giant, reactions from across the country and among the diplomatic community continue to dominate headlines.

On Tuesday, a rights group – the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and 176 Nigerians filed a lawsuit at the Economic Community of West African States Community Court of Justice in Abuja -Nigeria’s capital, calling for an interim injunction restraining government from implementing the ban.

The group described the ban of the social media platform’ operations as an attempt to silence criticism of the government.

The lawsuit came hours after members of the national assembly summoned the country’s Minister of Information and culture – Lai Mohammed to investigate the legality of the ban of Twitter by the federal government.

WADR’s Abuja correspondent Usman Umar has more in this report.
