In Ghana, there has been an increase in reported murders committed this year. A comparative analysis of some crime statistics from the first quarters of 2020 and 2021, indicates that there have been 144 murder cases recorded this year as compared to 123 in the first quarter of 2020
While there have been some improvements in policing, reported cases of abduction fell to 26 in the first quarter of 2021 as against 27 in the first quarter of 2020. Meanwhile, reported rape cases reduced from 119 to 97 in the same period, the increase in murders has raised concern.
Speaking to Journalists during National Police Command Conference on Thursday, Interior minister Ambrose Dery said the increase in murders needs to be addressed.
