2023 African Union/NANRHI Policy Dialogue Kicks off in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Human rights actors across Africa for the next 3 days will brainstorm on influencing changes for the protection and inclusion of the rights of African citizens in the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
This year’s policy dialogue taking place at the African Union (AU) headquarters in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, will focus on Championing A human rights-based approach in the implementation of the AfCFTA as well highlight the roles of the Network of African ANHRIs and key stakeholders.
In his opening remarks, Vice Chairperson of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions, NANHRI, Joseph Whittal, expressed concern that the AfCFTA design, processes and implementation seem to be shrouded in secrecy.
He said this has paid minimal attention to the human rights implications on citizens’ lives.
