Campaigners in Senegal say more efforts are needed to halt female genital mutilation (FGM).

The practice has been defined as the cutting of the external genetelia of a woman for non-medical reasons.

According to the campaigners, one in five girls under the age of fifteen years in the country has been cut.

Soukeyna Ndao Diallo is with UNICEF Senegal Office. She gave this bleak assessment of the situation to Essouly Diedhiou of WADR’s French-Service ahead of the launch of 16 days of activism against violence against women and girls.
