The world health Organization has said the covid19 spreading in India, a country facing an explosive outbreak, appears to be more contagious and therefore classified as being of concern.

The UN health agency Monday said the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19 first found in India last October, seems to be transmitting more easily than the original version of the virus, and might possibly have some increased resistance to vaccine protections.

The health body added that more details would be provided in its weekly epidemiological update on Tuesday.

India, suffering from one of the worst outbreaks in the world, reported nearly 370,000 fresh infections and more than 3,700 new deaths on Monday.

WHO’s Director General – Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during the agency’s briefing Monday said, a fund-raising campaign has been launched to support India through its darkest hours.
