The World Health Organisation WHO says Mpox no longer represents public health emergency of concern.
The announcement came Thursday at the agency’s virtual briefing after a meeting of the Mpox committee set up to monitor the evolution of the disease.
Since July last year, the viral disease has killed 140 people and affected 87 thousand others from 111 countries.
The WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus says, nonetheless, the virus continues to affect communities in all regions, including in Africa, where transmission is still not well understood.
He thus urges for the strengthening of health systems.
