The neglect in the treatment and care of people with Leprosy was brought to the fore on Sunday as the world commemorated the International Day of Leprosy.
This year’s commemoration of the WORLD Leprosy Day focuses on the theme Beat Leprosy, End Stigma and Advocate for Mental Well-Being.
Speaking with WADR, Dr. Yves Thierry Barogui, regional focal person for leprosy WHO Africa region, called for stringent action by governments across the region in eradicating this tropical disease.
According to Dr. Barogui, the condition of Leprosy has long been associated with stigma and discrimination, even when infected persons have been cured.
