Universal access to health and universal health coverage implies that all people and communities have indiscriminate access, to comprehensive, appropriate and timely, quality health services according to the WHO.
This means access to safe, effective, and affordable quality medicines, without risk of exposure to financial difficulties especially for the vulnerable population.
But to uphold this fundamental right, policies and actions need to be implemented with a multisectoral approach to address the social determinants of health and promote a society-wide commitment.
In 2019, the Ghanaian Government partnered with Zipline, an American drone manufacturing company, to deliver medical supplies, including vaccines, from local distribution centres directly to health facilities through a network of autonomous drones.
