In this edition, we are discussing Systemic lupus erythematosus, a chronic auto-immune disease that can affect many parts of the body. It occurs when the immune system, which normally helps protect the body from infection and disease, attacks its own tissues.

This attack causes inflammation and, in some cases, permanent tissue damage, which can be widespread – affecting the skin, joints, heart, lungs, kidneys, circulating blood cells, and brain.

Lupus symptoms vary from person to person and can range from mild to severe. You may have just a few symptoms affecting just one area of your body, or you could have many throughout your body.

Another thing is, that these symptoms may come and go unpredictably. They also tend to develop slowly, you might notice one or two signs of lupus at first, and then more or different symptoms later on.

The most common indications include fatigue, fever, joint pain, stiffness and swelling, butterfly-shaped rash on the face that covers the cheeks and bridge of the nose or rashes elsewhere on the body, skin lesions that appear or worsen with sun exposure, shortness of breath, chest pain, dry eyes, headaches, confusion, and memory loss.
