Breaking box office records, a Nollywood production has made history by being the first Nigerian film to gross 1 billion naira, that is 1.1 million dollars at local theatres.

In barely three weeks, the movie “A Tribe Called Judah”, accomplished the momentous achievement.

The film’s director, producer, and performer Funke Akindele (Jenifa), a Nigerian, has been praised by the President of the country, Bola Tinubu, and opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, for the rare accomplishment.

This milestone achievement, achieved within a month of its release, draws a stark comparison to the only other film to hit the 1 billion naira mark in the West African Box Office, ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ distributed by FilmOne Entertainment in 2021. Akindele’s success story further underscores her cinematic dominance following the impressive performances of her earlier works, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’ in 2021 and ‘Battle on Buka Street’ in 2022, both grossing over 600 million naira each.

Here are some Nigerians on the street of Abuja with their takes on the feat.
