The United Nations has warned that two million women and girls could over the next decade, experience female genital mutilation due to the global pandemic.
According to the organization, schools, which are supposed to serve as a safe haven and protect girls against this harmful practice, have been closed thereby disrupting programs, and exposing them to the practice,
Already, 4 million girls are at risk of FGM each year.
According to the world body, in order to achieve the global goal of eliminating this practice by 2030, an estimated $ 2.4 billion or less than $ 100 per girl, will be needed over the next decade.
