Representatives from the police, customs, armed forces, and forestry departments in Togo concluded a three-day workshop aimed at improving the management and transparency of international arms trade. Held from May 28 to May 30, the workshop involved 35 staff members from agencies responsible for implementing the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Strengthening Treaty Implementation Skills

The workshop focused on enhancing the skills of personnel involved in the implementation of the ATT, with particular emphasis on meeting the annual reporting obligations under Article 13. This training is essential for ensuring Togo’s adherence to its international commitments and maintaining transparency in its arms trade practices.

Promoting Interagency Cooperation

Minister of Security and Civil Protection Calixte Madjoulba emphasized the significance of the ATT, which came into force in 2014, as a crucial step in international disarmament. The workshop also aimed to improve interagency cooperation and coordination, which are vital for ensuring the regularity and effectiveness of reports. Enhanced collaboration among agencies is expected to lead to better enforcement and compliance with the treaty’s provisions.
