In Togo, the opposition remains steadfastly opposed to the ongoing postponement of legislative and regional elections.

Their dissatisfaction is echoed by civil society, which also expresses its frustration. In response to the delay, they have declared their intention to undertake various actions in the coming days to protest against the postponement of these elections, originally scheduled to occur in two weeks.

This adjustment of the electoral calendar, as described by the presidency, has ignited anger among opposition groups who were gearing up for the election campaign.

The government argues that this postponement was necessary to allow Parliament to conduct consultations on the new Constitution, recently adopted by the outgoing Parliament but contested by a significant portion of the political class and civil society.

The opposition vehemently opposes the proposed transition from a presidential to a parliamentary regime, rejecting the consultations announced on this matter and demanding the swift organization of legislative and regional elections.

Brigitte Adjamabo Johnson, representing the opposition, has already announced a series of protests for the following week. They have urged their supporters to mobilize in response.
