Health authorities in Togo have issued a strong warning to the public against consuming fish found under suspicious circumstances.

This follows the discovery of a large quantity of dead fish in a stormwater retention basin in a Lomé neighborhood over the weekend.

On Tuesday, security barriers were set up in the area as officials moved to investigate the cause and prevent potential health risks.

Authorities say the warning is a precautionary measure to avoid outbreaks of harmful diseases and protect lives.
