Togo has experienced a 43% drop in cotton produce, and according to the chairman of the board of directors of the New Cotton Company of Togo (NSCT), this is attributed to the poor quality of the cotton seeds and floods experienced in the northern part of the country.
To curb this, the government has made plans to industrialise and privatise the industry, saying that it will make cotton a real and sustainable source of income and employment for the country.
