Civil society organizations in Togo are no longer concealing their concerns following the expiry of the term of office of members of parliament on 31 December.
On Wednesday, 12 non-governmental organizations co-signed a press release denouncing what they described as a “constitutional and institutional vacuum”.
These include the association of victims of torture in Togo, whose president Asvitto. Monzlouwe Atcholi Kao, said they are demanding a meeting to be held before the legislative elections.
The proposed date for the polls announced by the Togolese government is March 2024 at the latest.
