Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have long played a critical role in strengthening democratic governance across Africa.

As watchdogs, advocates, mobilizers, and service providers, these groups often fill the gaps left by government institutions, holding leaders accountable and amplifying the voices of ordinary citizens.

In recent years, Senegal has emerged as a compelling case study in the intersection between civil society and democracy.

In today’s edition of Citizens’ Hour, we focus on the pivotal role CSOs play in promoting democracy in Senegal, understand the strategies they employ, highlight their successes, and unpack the challenges they navigate in their pursuit of a more open, participatory, and accountable society

Our guests are two civil society activists, the Program Assistant with AfricTivist, Abdou Aziz Cisse and Arame Gueye Sène, Executive Director of Social Change Factory and Vice-President of the Senegal Youth Consortium.
