Scores of people tragically lost their lives in a stampede at a Customs warehouse in Lagos, Nigeria over the weekend.
The incident occurred after the government directed the Nigeria Customs Service to sell seized bags of rice to citizens at subsidized rates.
The government’s initiative to sell off subsidized rice aimed to mitigate the burdensome effects of inflation on citizens. Nonetheless, the execution of this plan resulted in widespread confusion and tragedy.
