In Senegal, the commune of Ngaye Mékhé, a town in the northwest region, some 204 kilometres from Dakar, is hosting an event to celebrate the 2023 World Rural Women’s and UN Food Days.
Spearheaded by the pan-African “We are the Solution” movement, the occasion is backed by the FAHAMU Africa organisation and brings together rural women from within Senegal, The Gambia and Guinea Bissau.
Discussions will highlight the role, but above all the problems women face in gaining access to land and funding for their farming activities.
The participants will also use the opportunity to make the case for a healthy and sustainable food system in Africa.
