The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament has postponed the decision on a petition calling for the seats of four Members of Parliament to be declared vacant.

This followed deliberations between the Majority and Minority sides of the House after a petition was submitted by former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.

Haruna Iddrisu’s petition invoked Article 97(1)(g) of the Constitution, which mandates that an MP must vacate their seat if they resign from the party under which they were elected or choose to remain in Parliament as an independent candidate.

The petition seeks to apply this provision to three Majority MPs and one NDC MP.
