Barely 24 hours after the general elections in Sierra Leone on Saturday, the country’s Independent Commission for Peace and national cohesion (ICPNC) has reported receiving calls, messages, and videos through its toll-free line and WhatsApp platform.
The messages were mainly of threats, violence, allegations of ballot stuffing, and intimidation of polling staff among others.
Such factors the Commission’s Chairman Reverend Shodankeh Johnson said contributed to increased political tension in some polling stations, particularly in the capital city – Freetown.
