In Sierra Leone, the Human Rights Commission has accused police of abuse during Monday’s student protest against their exclusion from graduation.

On Monday, students of the Institutes of Public Administration and Management {IPAM} – one of the constituent Colleges of the University of Sierra Leone, went on the rampage, protesting in anger against the decision by the authorities.

The students argued that failure of the Institution to publish grades early is one of the many problems that resulted in their failure to graduate, however, authorities maintained that they would follow the University policy to the letter.

Speaking to WADR’s Patrick Salia, Deputy Director of Training, Information and Communications at the Human Rights Commission Abubakarr Kamara also expressed disappointment in the decision of the University to hold its annual congregation ceremony, denying hundreds of students the opportunity to graduate.
