The government of Sierra Leone has launched a comprehensive polio vaccination campaign targeting children aged zero to five years in the Western Area Urban and Rural Districts.

This third round of vaccinations, which began on October 11, 2024, follows successful campaigns in 14 out of 16 districts.

The campaign is free, safe, and effective, according to the authorities, with the vaccinations being administered in schools, marketplaces, homes, and other public venues.

The Western Area Urban and Rural Districts have, however, been excluded from earlier rounds to ensure focused attention.

The WHO and UNICEF are providing additional vaccines and support, with officials emphasizing the importance of vaccination to prevent polio and ensure children’s health.
