President Julius Maada Bio has reiterated his government’s resolve and strong determination to protect democracy in the country.

His assurances in a televised address late Sunday followed an attack at the Wilberforce Military barracks and correctional facilities by unidentified armed individuals.

For the moment, it is unknown if the incident was an attempted coup or a rebellion, but a sweep operation has commenced to hunt down the rebels.

The country in the meantime remains under an indefinite curfew with residents asked to stay indoors.
