The ECOWAS request to relocate the former President of Sierra Leone, Ernest Bai Koroma, to Nigeria is causing a divide among the citizenry.

While the northern region, a stronghold of the opposition All Peoples Congress of Ernest Bai Koroma accuses the regime of a political witchhunt, the southern region – the base of President Julius Maada Bio is seeking Justice.

Recall, Koroma has been charged with treason among other offences for his role in the November 2023 failed coup.

The opposition leader should have departed Freetown on Thursday for Nigeria, where he was granted political asylum but the Sierra Leonean government disapproved of it on claims that the letter from ECOWAS contradicts the agreement reached with President Julius Maada Bio.

Speaking to WADR Paul Kamara, a journalist from Freetown says tension is rising.
