The new Senegalese president Bassirou Diomaye Faye is making his first visit outside the country to Mauritania tomorrow, Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Once he arrives in Nouakchott, Diomaye Faye will meet with His Mauritanian counterpart President Mohamed Ould El Ghazouani.

On the agenda are talks on the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim cross-border gas project between the two countries whose exploitation is set to commence before the end of the year.

Ahead of the visit, questions are asked…such as what is at stake in the project, given that the new Senegalese authorities want an audit of the contracts already signed by the former regime of President Macky Sall.
